What is Hellcat Darkroom?

Hellcat Darkroom is the name for Scarlett DeLorme’s wet plate practice. Scarlett began practicing wet plate photography in February 2022, and has been dedicated to the medium ever since.

I feel the most comfortable making tintypes using natural light. It connects me to the people who made tintypes over a century ago, and makes me feel more grounded in my practice.

Studio work is a beast of its own. Learning artificial light and studio posing has helped further my practice. I enjoy mixing both natural and artificial light to create images both me and my subjects are happy with.
